On the Run with Riley’s Army 5K/ 1K Fun Run

I would like to thank you for your support in our 6th Annual “On the Run” with Riley’s Army 5K and 1K fun run. We were so excited by the number of people that came out to enjoy an afternoon of fellowship, food, fun, and supporting our mission! It is always inspiring to have such powerful support from the participants, our sponsors, our vendors, and the community in general.

RACE DAY INFO:
On Your Mark, Get Set, Almost time to ……….GO!
We are very excited! We are just days away from race day! To ensure you have only the most enjoyable of race experiences we’ve included some race directions below. So please take time to read, review & respond if there are any questions.
REGISTRATION: There is still time to have friends & family register for this year’s event. Here is how:
• Registration is available online www.runtheeast.com until Wed Sept 20th.
• Registration will also be available at both Omega Sporting Goods on Saturday Sept 25th from noon-2:00pm
• Registration will also be available Sunday – race day- from 1:30-2:30pm at Winterville Parks and Rec Ballfield
***Please note, if you did not register in time for a participant shirt, we have started something new this year. We created a “race shirt”. This is a shirt we will offer on race day for $10 for those that would like one. We only ordered 72 race shirts for this year.
Packet Pickup: We strongly encourage participants to take advantage of Early Packet Pick up at Omega Sporting Goods Saturday 9/24th noon-2:00pm.
Race day Packet Pickup will also be available from 1:30-2:30pm at the event.
RAFFLE DRAWING: Painted Peacock created an unique adorable memento from last year’s race that we will raffle off. Tickets will be available at packet pick up and on race day.
Race Day Parking/Arrival: You may park in the any of the Winterville Park & Rec ball field parking lots. There is additional parking in the designated spaces along Sylvania, near AG Cox Middle School and in designated spaces along the streets near the middle school.
Timing: We are utilizing Run The East Timing. We will be using a shoe tag timing system. We will physically place the timing chip into your hands. After the race there will be volunteers at the finish line to remove the chip from your shoe. Please note there is a fee associated with missing timing chips. So, please help us by returning any chips we miss.
For your convenience, Run The East Timing will have results scrolling live-in real time, on a LCD television near the finish line.
**Pre Start/Start Line: Upon arriving and parking in the main lot runners should go to check in. There will be tents marked for each event: pre-registered 5K, day of event registration for 5K, & 1K Fun Run. After you check in, you may walk around to visit the vendors that are around, meet the DJ, our RA merchandise, Gold Bows, and more will be there.
Around 2:30PM our opening ceremonies will begin, at 2:50PM- we ask all 5K participants to start gathering on Sylvania as we will start to corral & lineup runners. The starting line for BOTH the 5K and 1K will be on the Sylvania at the same place. The 5K will start promptly at 3:00 PM. The 1K will start about 5 minutes after the 5K participants clear the starting area. Both Races will end with the same finish on Division St near the tennis courts.
Water: There will be 1 water stops along the 5K course. It is near the 1mile marker. We thank Fleet Feet for sponsoring the water station.
Post-Race: Once you’re done running- we encourage you to cheer on fellow participants from the sidelines.
When you are not cheering, please enjoy our post race party that includes Nu Look Bounce-N-Party Bouncy House, food from Papa John’s, Jimmy John’s, Texas Roadhouse, Fresh Market, Sparky Snowballs, entertainment from Battle Balls & much, much more.
And be sure to hang around for door prizes & awards. Awards will begin approximately 4:15PM.
** Volunteers should be on every street corner along the course in a safety yellow shirt, if you need help-please speak up & we will get the appropriate personnel.

Event Info before Race Day:
We are happy to announce the 6th Annual On the Run with Riley’s Army 5k Run, 1K Fun Walk and Field Day sponsored by Winterville Parks & Rec is scheduled for Sunday, September 24th 2017 at the Winterville Recreation Park and we want YOU to be a part of it!
We have had such positive feedback from adding our “Field Day” to the event over the years. We will continue this tradition in hopes to create awareness of pediatric cancer in our community and lend support to the families of children with cancer. Field Day is a day of vendors, bouncy house, food, and fun for people of all ages to enjoy- not just the racers.
We are changing the 1 Mile Fun Run to a 1K (0.7 mile) Walk/ Parade. We will start this shortly before the 5K race and have the participants “parade” different ways to go gold! We believe this will add a wonderful aspect to our event all those wanting to participate.

We love our new softer race shirt this year- and we will have both the softer cotton shirt (which is guaranteed with your registration by Sept 2nd) and the option to purchase DRIFIT shirts for an additional $5 more.
