The pediatric cancer survivor’s dinner is fast approaching and scheduled for March 18, 2019. It was about eight years ago that I attended the first one and I was hooked. It is absolutely my favorite event of all time. Pediatric cancer is a family disease and this celebration gives the families a chance to laugh, play and fellowship with others who are on the same journey. It’s a chance for the Riley’s Army volunteers to see them outside of the hospital setting enjoying an evening of fun prepared just for them and their sweet families. It is a sight that brings me much joy and one that I look forward to each year.
These sweet families are so special. They love with all of their hearts and smile in the face of the worst possible circumstances. They share hugs and smiles that I’m sure they have to dig pretty deep for at times. I have no idea of the actual number of families I have met over the years but I can promise you they have all touched my heart in a very special way. They have taught me how to live and how to stay focused on what really matters in this world.
I am so excited to know that I will see many of them on March 18th. It’s like Christmas for me and I know I will get many hugs and smiles. I will be reminded of God’s grace and mercy. I will see all the hard work that Riley’s Army, and the volunteers put forth to make this night special for these sweet families.
I hope to see you there!!!!!!!!!!!!
